Abstract

This study presents results of investigation into the water balance and ecological conditions in the Rybinsk Reservoir during low-water years in the beginning of the 21st century. Data on annual calculations of water balance components obtained from the Rybinsk Hydrometeorological Observatory and materials of hydrological and hydrobiological surveys conducted by researchers of the Institute have been analyzed. It is shown that during the period 2000 - 2017 in the reservoir inflow there were two low-water years (2001 and 2014) with annual inflows less than 20 km3, compared to the average annual inflow of 32,646 км3. The wide range of inflow to the reservoir leads to fluctuations in its water level, volume and an increase in temporary drying-out areas that affects aquatic organisms.
