EVALUATION OF THE QUALITY OF MATERNITY CARE IN A HOSPITAL SETTING
Abstract
The quality of obstetric care is a serious problem in the Bulgarian health care, especially in recent years (during the pandemic, during the dynamic development of medical science and practice, when the regulatory norm changes or is absent). The growing dissatisfaction of citizens with the received medical midwifery work on the one hand, and on the other-the deep disappointment of practicing doctors and health professionals, constant tension in the system, loss of trust, limited opportunities for career and professional development and decent pay. Efforts to provide quality and safe obstetric care for pregnant and childbearing children, as well as to provide a supportive working environment for midwifery and related health professionals, are a dynamic and ever-changing process that requires the cooperation and commitment of all stakeholders: public administration, maternal and child health priority policies, institutional commitment, caste organizations, patient organizations, and universities.
The purpose of this work is to analyze and evaluate obstetric care in hospital structures and to develop guidelines to improve their quality and effectiveness. The subject of the study is obstetric care and its management in 16 hospitals. The study is based on the use of a direct individual survey and covers 389 medical professionals. Signs related to the organization of work in the ward, the role and place of work of the doctor and midwife in the treatment process were studied. The analysis of the survey data was aimed at characterizing obstetric care in a hospital setting and improving the quality of medical care.
